The Art Gallery

The local residents of Kamjyanka regard carefully and touchingly the works of the artists who are their fellow contrymen. And there is no difference whether they have all lived the whole life in a small town on the Tyasmyn river, being inspired by the history of their land and picturesque landscapes of its surroundings, or they became famous far from this town, somewhere in other cities or countries. A small cosy Art Gallery of the Kamjyanka State Historical and Cultural Reserve enables the artists to return home and it gives a feeling to residents of Kamjyanka that they also belong to the art.

One of the brightest representatives of art in Kamjyanka is Makar Mukha. He is an honoured master of folk art. His works in the style of Ukrainian ornament have been exhibited in Kyiv, Moscow, the galleries of France, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Bulgaria, Poland and Canada. A lot of them are also in the collections of many local museums.

Makar Mukha had been living in Kamjyanka for a long time. The motifs of his native land went through all his works. Each work impresses us by the variety of colors and an inexhaustible imagination of the artist, it draws our attention by an impeccable composition. The artist illustrated the works of Taras Shevchenko, I.S.Nechuy-Levitskyj, O. S.Pushkin, P.I.Chaykovskyj.

The most famous of his works are "The Firebird with a Red Tail," "The Peacock and the Butterfly," "The Peonies," illustrations to the works by Taras Shevchenko such as "The Lily and The Royal World," "The Cherry Orchard Near the Peasant's House". The book by Sergiy Nosan "The Feather from the Firebird’s Wing" was published in the publishing house “Rainbow” in Kyiv in 1979.

And he was buried in his native village of Mikhajlivka, the place of his life and inspiration...
