The museum of the history
of the Korsun-Shevchenkovsky Battle
The museum of the history of the Korsun-Shevchenkovsky Battle (till 1957 it was called a historical museum) was founded in accordance with the decree of Soviet of People’s Commissars of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic and Central Committee and the Communist Party of Ukraine ‘’About the organization of the state historical museum in Korsun-Shevchenkivsk’’ of the 28th of July 1945, N8-1201 to immortalize the victory of the Soviet troops in the Korsun-Shevchenkovsky Operation.
The exhibition devoted to the 70th-anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) is displayed in the entrance hall of the museum. The exposition of the first hall contains the materials about the beginning of the Second World War (aggression of Germany and the USSR against Poland, Germany’s intrusion into the USSR, etc.), the items found while German soldiers were buried again.
The second hall shows the exhibits about the occupation regime in Korsunshchyna, the resistance movement, the liberation of Left-bank Ukraine.
The third hall is about the Dnieper Offensive, the beginning of the liberation of Right-bank Ukraine and the beginning of the Korsun-Shevchenkovsky Offensive. The other three exhibit-halls contain the information on the details of encirclement force by the Red Army.
The total liberation of Ukraine, Eastern Europe, the capitulation of Germany and the Victory parade on Red Square in Moscow are shown in the eighth hall.
The ninth hall is the diorama ‘’The Korsun-Shevchenkovsky Battle, 1944’’, opened in 1969.
Among the exhibits of the museum the valuable ones are Marshal I.S. Konev’s uniform, Lt. General W.Stemmermann’s personal belongings, German and Soviet military ammunition, weapons, awards etc.
The tenth (central) hall exposes battle painting, exhibition of war correspondence.
