Symbolics
The arms of the region consist of the small arms and cartouche framing it. The cartouche is a bladed thyroid-shaped composition. Middle parts of cartouche are bent to the center. Crossed sabre and a pin are depicted in the interior part of cartouche. Middle parts of the cartouche borders are completed with the laurel wreaths on both sides of the small arms. And above them there are elastic stalks with guelder-rose branches and leaves.
There is a graphic image of T.G. Shevchenko en face, inscribed into the octahedral shield, in the middle of the upper part of cartouche. The image is in white color on the purple background. Oak branches with leaves and acorns are placed around the shield with the portrait. Together they form a traditional for cartouches silhouette of a crown. The cartouche is monochrome, made in copper, bronze and silver colors, except the portrait which is colorful.
The sabre and the pin symbolize a glorious past of Cherkasy region and Bohdan Khmelnytskyi as the state creator. Laurel is the symbol of glory. Volutes are the protohistory of initiation and development. Guelder-rose is the most widespread botanic symbol, an exponent of Ukrainian mentality. The image of Shevchenko is the highest display of talent, acknowledged all over the world, prophet and symbol of Ukrainian, pride and glory of our land. Oak is the symbol of strength and indestructibility; acorns are the symbol of hope for development and progress.
The flag of Cherkasy region. A blue-colored cloth which symbolizes the sky height and dignity. There is a two-sided image of the arms in the middle of the cloth ends are two framed with yellow fringe (the fourth and is worn on the beam), there are two cords in yellow and blue color with golden tassels in the upper part. The correlation of breadth and length is 2:3.
